The idea for this painting was slightly different to my usual underwater fish scenes. Firstly, I wanted to minimise the colours, and stick with a monochromatic colour scheme using only Phthalo blue (with black and white). Secondly, I wanted to show the water surface with the fish underneath. As always though, I resisted the urge to paint it too realistically to keep the energy and movement in the painting.
