Quite often I have an idea, or inspiration that I just can't resist, I just have to get it onto canvas. If I don't have a fresh canvas ready to go, no old, or unfinished existing painting is safe. I grab the nearest un-sold painting and simply paint over it. This was the case with "Candy Stripes". The rough, random textures in this painting are from a previous painting underneath the surface. I don't try to hide this, It adds to the interest, and spontaneity of the moment. The idea for this painting was all about contrast. Complimentary colours of pink and green, combined with soft shades of pink painted over a rough surface. The pink shades are deliberately muted so that the green is actually the prettiest colour on the painting.
