Ok, so this, is where it all started, my very first fish painting, inspired by a trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium in the USA. The aquarium has a huge tank that circles a large room, filled with millions of Pilchards, or Sardines. It is absolutely mesmerising as they constantly circle around the room, sparkling, and shining like lights of silver. I knew I had to paint them. I must admit that I struggled with the balance of capturing the fleeting energy of the scene, and getting the painting just right. I felt that I overworked it and it lost some of it's movement. But, as it hung in the Stones Throw Cafe at Stones Corner in Brisbane, it was noticed, and sold. Later to appear in a television ad, much to my surprise. The fish just keep on swimming!
If ever you make it to Monterey, I insist that you visit the Aquarium. You won't regret it. And, if you ever visit Stones Corner, you must also drop in for a great coffee and meal at Stones Throw Cafe.
